Noah's Safari Cake

Mum Kristy pre-ordered Noah's 1st Birthday cake back in October for his Birthday in February. I was really looking forward to this one. A safari cake.

The only real request was that it matched his Invitations.

I am loving making figurines at the moment, so was quite excited at the thought of making a lion. Once he was made though, I thought he needed a couple of friends so set about making a zebra & giraffe to go with him.

I kept the cake fairly simple, added some safari inspired leaves to the top and sides, and added the wording.

I also tried a new technique to smooth the sides of the cake, which I think worked quite well. my smoothest cake yet.

This was an 8" double layer vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting.

Thanks for looking xx

Naomi & Craig's Wedding

Woohoo, my quote was accepted, and they chose the cupcake with the monogram and the little flower.

I even went to the venue and set the display up, so I got to see the beautiful venue, it was divine.

6" cutting cake was chocolate mud cake.
100 cupcakes were half white and half dark chocolate mud.
All topped with white chocolate buttercream.
Monogram topper was made of acrylic and made by Bride's father.

NRL Cake

Archie's Mum & Dad work with my Husband, and are Newcastle Knights fanatics, so when it came to his 1st Birthday cake thats what they chose as the theme.

I hadn't used an edible image before, and I didn't want it to look like it had come from the local bakery / cheesecake shop. I was quite happy with the end result, as were Archie's parents.

Wedding samples.

A few weeks ago, I was asked to do a quote for a Wedding. I haven't done a Wedding before, so I really wanted it to be accepted.

So, I worked it out, and emailed it off, and I was asked to supply samples.

The client requested white and dark chocolate mud cupcakes, quite simple, in purple and cream colours.

So this is what I designed.

My favourites are the 2nd two. I realised after I took the photo of the cupcake with the flower, that I had forgotten to put the flower centres in, but I fixed this before they were delivered.

Calling all Star Wars fans.

You may remember earlier this year in February, I made a R2-D2 cake for a little boy called Bailey. Well this month it was his cousin Dylan's Birthday, and he has asked for a Yoda cake. I was pretty stressed about making Yoda, as I had no idea as to how I would make him, but in the end I was quite happy with the result. The best part, is that Dylan loved him :o)

Yoda was chocolate mud cake, with vanilla & chocolate buttercream.

Cowgirl Dora Cake

A few weeks ago my friend Rach asked me to make her daughter Isabel a cake for her 3rd birthday. She liked the Dora cake I had made in February, but wanted it with purple icing, anyway Rach found some cute Dora figurines, in a cowgirl sort of theme, so I tried out something different. The idea for this cake comes from the Swiper figure in the cactus. I made some cacti out of icing, and fences to match the plastic fence. Then I added some little flowers to make it a bit more girly.

Tommy the Turtle Cake

About a month ago, I answered a request on a parenting forum for a cake decorator in my area. I showed the lady some of my cake photos, and she liked them, and some other lovely girls recommended me to her too :)

Anyway she wanted a cake for her Son's 1st birthday, and it had to have a turtle theme. She also liked my Dora cake, so I went from there.

I decided it needed something 3d on top, so went about finding a tutorial online, and Thanks to Cake Journal, I found one. I adapted it a bit, as I wanted a more rounded back, but the principal is the same. I am so happy with how he turned out :)

I made the cake the same way as the Dora cake, its an 8" chocolate mud cake with vanilla butter cream icing. This time I just changed the colours to a blue / green theme, and changed the flowers to stars.

This is what I came up with.

Thanks for looking : )

Eamon's Christening Cupcakes.

Last weekend I had an order for 48 Cupcakes. 24 were to be choc mud flavoured w/ choc buttercream icing, and the other 24 to be white choc mud flavoured with vanilla buttercream icing, sprinkled with Cachous. This is what we come up with.

I displayed them on my own stand for these photos, but Amanda (Eamon's Mum) bought her own stand and displayed them on it.

Amanda is also Amelia's Mum, whom I made the pink Number 3 cake for last year. It was great to get a repeat order :) When Amanda asked her Husband what sort of cake he wanted for Eamon's Christening, his reply was "a cake by Kat" I was so excited, LOL!

In the past..

I thought this morning, since this is a blog about me and my cakes, that I should post some photos of other cakes I have made. I have made quite a few more than this, but back then, didn't think to photograph them. Amelia's Number 3 cake.
The request was for white chocolate mud cake, pink and girly.

My first cupcake sale!

Yesterday I completed my first cupcake order! It was for a 30th Birthday, and basically they had to be chocolate mud cake, and boyish, oh and 30 of them. The rest was up to me.

So I coloured some RTR icing, rolled it out, got out my cutters and set to work. I managed to get all of the decorations cut out by Tuesday afternoon, they were quite easy to do. I made the cupcakes yesterday morning, iced and decorated yesterday afternoon, and they were collected this morning.
How they were to be set out.
I quite like just these ones on their own too.

The Not-So-Scary Green Dinosaur!

A little while ago, a friend asked me to make a cake for her "soon to be" 3 year old's birthday. Josh wanted a green dinosaur like that one (pointing to an elaborate cake in a photo). It's a Stegosaurus apparently, and was green and had huge orange spikes in its back. Well you can't disappoint a little boy with huge ideas can you? So here is my attempt at his dream. It is his birthday party tomorrow, I hope he likes it!

The cut out dinosaur

I decided to crumb coat, as it there was quite a few crumbs
